tdividototgt大明开国初，太祖皇帝朱元璋确定并完善了内廷二十四衙门的制度，御马监的职掌也由“掌御厩马匹”扩充为“掌御马及诸进贡并典牧所关收马骡之事”。
然而，作为封建王朝，马匹作为这个时代的重要的交通工具和军事资源，因马匹的宝贵程度，自然而然的，职掌御马的御马监不可避免的衍生出军事和财政两大职能。
由于御马监职掌御马，故而御马监自然要有养马、驯马人员，以及看护马匹的人，由此，御马监也就产生了一支由御马监统领的禁兵腾骧四卫和勇士营。
永乐年间，成祖皇帝因为某些原因，大肆起用宦官，而原本管辖养马训马护马人员的御马监，也就正式走上了统率禁军的舞台。
